2. Do I need a prescription to order medications from Canada?

We require a valid prescription from a licensed physician for all prescription medications, just like your local drugstore. OTC (over the counter medications) do not require a prescription. Our licensed Canadian physician will review and co-sign your prescription(s).

3. Why is medication so affordable in Canada?

Due to a national health care system, the Canadian government regulates the pricing of prescription medication. This limits and restricts drug companies to charge a lower price for the same quality medications as marketed in the US. The Canadian government also encourages generic companies to produce substantially cheaper generic versions of brand name drugs to enter the market sooner.

4. Why do I have to fill out a health profile form?

Our Canadian doctors and pharmacists need to evaluate your health history and medications in order to correctly assess your drug therapy. They also need to check for drug contraindications. Please remember to inform your doctor of all the medications (prescription or OTC) you are taking (in case you have more than one doctor) because certain drugs should not be taken together.

5. Will you accept my insurance?

We cannot accept your insurance at this time. However, certain insurance companies may be able to reimburse you for your prescriptions filled at our Canadian pharmacy. We can provide you with any receipts or paperwork necessary to provide proof of purchase and we will be happy to contact your insurance company on your behalf.

6. How long will it take to process my order?

Once Online Canada Meds has received your order, valid picture ID and prescription(s), our Canadian doctor will review and co-sign them and send them back to our Canadian pharmacy. Generally orders are shipped out of the Canadian pharmacy within 7-14 business days provided there are no unforeseen delays. Once your order is shipped, you should receive it within 3-5 business days. Sometimes, packages are inspected by US Customs and that can delay the delivery of your order by another 5-10 days. We always recommend that you order your medications at least three to four weeks in advance before your medication supply runs out. You can track the status of your order by logging onto our website.

8. What are generic drugs?

Generic drugs are medications which are bioequivalent to brand name drugs. These drugs contain the exact same chemicals as brand name drugs but can be made by many different generic drug companies. A company which first discovers and markets a drug is the only company which is allowed to market that drug. This is referred to as a Brand Name drug. After a period of time, five or ten years, the drug patent expires and other companies are allowed to manufacture and market the exact same drug at lower prices. This is referred to as a Generic drug.

9. Are generic drugs safe?

Yes. Due to strict regulations on the generic drug industry, these drugs have proved to provide the same therapeutic effect as it's brand name counter-part. The only reason brand name drugs are so expensive is because the makers of these drugs have to spend a lot of money trying to first make and then to advertise that drug. Millions of Canadians have been using generic drugs safely and effectively for years!

10. What if you don't carry what I am looking for?

There are certain drugs which are not available in Canada. Under these circumstances, we have the doctor associated with the Canadian pharmacy contact your doctor to authorize another therapeutically equivalent drug which is available in Canada. If your doctor does not wish to authorize this change, we will not be able to dispense your prescription(s). Note: There are some brand name US drugs that are available in Canada under different trade names. For example, Prilosec is called Losec in Canada.

11. Can I transfer a prescription from my local pharmacy?

We cannot transfer prescriptions. We must have a faxed or an original copy of your prescription from your doctor. However, we can contact your doctor and obtain a fax of your prescription for you.

12. Will the pills I receive from Canada look differently than the pills I get now?

The pills you receive from us may look different if they are manufactured by a different drug company. Generic drugs may look different because most drug companies choose to have different "fillers" (non-medicinal ingredients) in their drugs. These "fillers" may change the colour or flavour of the pills. Although these pills may look different, they contain the exact same chemical ingredients and will work the same way as their brand name counter-part. Most of the brand name drugs you order will look the same because they are manufactured by the same drug company.

13. Do I need a prescription for "over the counter" drugs in Canada?

Over the counter medications do not require a prescription. All of our drugs are categorized as either prescription or OTC (over the counter) so you will be able to recognize quickly which medications require a prescription.
